The history of Wishard Health Services can be traced back to 1855 when a smallpox epidemic prompted Indianapolis to begin building a hospital. Since that era, the institution has evolved and grown into a diverse healthcare system providing a full range of care.

Wishard Health Services is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, which evaluates hospital performance and quality of service. Wishard includes a Level I Trauma Center, Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Wishard, Lockefield Village Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, outpatient surgery services, a full range of women's services and much more.
